2.0 TDCI 16v 136 BHP 2005 - 2010 Siemens SID803

The Ford Kuga is a great looking car and when paired with the 2.0 TDCI engine it’s also a pleasure to drive and has great fuel economy. You can make this even better if you carry out a simple Stage 1 remapping procedure. The EU models used the Siemens SID206 ECU system which was gnerally used until 2010 until early 2011. If you have one of the newer EU5 models fitted with the Delphi DCM3.5 ECU then we can get even more power so please check which version you have and jump over to the correct page.

Stage 1 Ford Kuga 2.0 TDCI 140 EU4 (180 BHP | 370Nm)

Our Stage 1 remap for the Ford Kuga 2.0 TDCI 140 EU4 variant was developed in house by our lead engineer with over 12 years diesel tuning experience. The remap will transform the way your car drives by giving constant smooth but strong torque which will not run out in the higher rev ranges. With a Stage 1 HDI Tuning remap you’ll see roughly 180BHP at the top end, with a mid-range torque increase to 375Nm.

We’ve developed this remap with reliability in mind, so you don’t need to worry about your clutch or your dual mass flywheel. We design our remaps to run in unison with the DPF system. The HDI Tuning DPF safe remap will give no increased risk of particle filter problems as long as you undertake regular long journeys.

Stage 2 (195 BHP | 390 Nm)

The Stage 2 remap requires an uprated intercooler, complete free flowing exhaust system and a 3.1 Bar MAP sensor so that the ECU is able to run increased turbo pressure (part number 9649396580). Peak power comes out at 195 BHP with a torque figure of 380 to 400Nm – we can tailor this to your clutch.

We recommend fitting the black diamond Kevlartek Stage 2 clutch for this level of tune, available through HDI Tuning. On some vehicles you might need to replace the DMF with a new part, or swap it for a solid flywheel. The torque figure is fairly reasonable so it should not cause DMF problems, a worn DMF should be replaced or converted to a solid flywheel.

Stage 3 (210 BHP | 420 Nm)

The stage 3 remap requires all the stage 2 modifications and also a hybrid turbo.

The turbo charger should use an upgraded 52mm compressor wheel. This will allow the turbo to flow more air whilst remaining suitably matched to the original turbine wheel and can also be controlled by the ECU software more easily than a complete upgraded turbo. By using a 52mm compressor there will not be significant turbo lag.

The fuel pump is the limit on this remap, it will struggle to flow more than 210 BHP of fuel. An additional in tank lift pump to feed the high pressure pump can be helpful, it’s also essential the fuel pump is in excellent condition, if it’s worn it will need to be refurbished.

For this level of torque, it’s best to use a Ceramic paddle clutch with a solid flywheel.

Programming Methods – OBD programming or Bench Programming

There are three variants of the SID803/SID803A/SID206 ECU. On Fords the ECU can be programmed over OBD by most tools like Kess V2. It’s also an option to remove the ECU and program on the bench with BDM100 (open ECU).

Programming via OBD SID206 with Kess V2 (not for SID803)

  • Obtain a suitable programming tool; we recommend to use Dimsport MyGenius, you can also use Kess V2.
  • Install the tool to a reliable laptop.
  • Connect to the OBD port of your car, make sure you have backup chargers to the vehicle battery and the laptop battery.
  • ID the ECU and then take a read of the ECUs flash memory.
  • Email the software to remap@hdi-tuning.co.uk along with a description of the remap you require.
  • Send payment through our webshop.
  • We will modify the software and send back to you. This normally takes less than 2 to 3 hours during working days.
  • Using the same tool, ID then write to the ECU. This will overwrite the ECUs flash memory, it’s important not to interrupt the process. If you encounter any problems we can fix the ECU for you so there’s absolutely nothing to worry about.
  • Let your engine warm up and then take the car for a spin, enjoy the extra power!

Programming via BDM SID206

The SID206 can be programmed direct to the ECU board through the BDM port. Obtain a suitable programming tool, we recommend Kess KTAG.

  • Order a suitable tool such as Kess KTAG or BDM100.
  • Install the tool to a reliable laptop.
  • The ECU must be removed from the vehicle, and then the tabs on the lid can be carefully pried open and the casing of the ECU removed.
  • Using a pogo spring probe connect to the ECU board, power the ECU to the ECU connector plugs as described by your programming tool.
  • ID the ECU and then take a read of the ECUs memories for a backup (please save separately, and not as a combined file). For EDC16C3 the performance maps are in the 1MB flash. For EDC16C34 the performance maps are stored in the 2MB flash memory.
  • Send payment through our webshop.
  • We will modify the software and send back to you. This normally takes less than 2 to 3 hours during working days.
  • Using the same tool, ID then write to the ECU. This will overwrite the ECUs memory, it’s important not to interrupt the process. If you encounter any problems we can fix the ECU for you so there’s absolutely nothing to worry about (You can always repair an ECU if you take a full BDM backup of all memories).
  • Straighten the lid on the ECU and seal with a little silicone.
  • Refit the ECU and start the engine.
  • Let your engine warm up and then take the car for a spin, enjoy the extra power!
