The drivers wish map has axes of pedal % and engine speed, the Z axis is usually a torque request on most modern ECUs. Drivers wish, or accelerator pedal request monitoring has a few ways of manifesting itself.
The most common form of pedal monitoring is to have a secondary set of maps that have a ‘maximum’ torque percentage plotted on the Z axis, whilst the X and Y axes are again pedal % and engine speed. This map can appear confusing to start off with because how do we work out what % we are relative to the drivers wish map?
When we know the torque value in the ECU that we are using for our calculation then it’s easy to set the drivers wish monitoring maps correctly. It’s also possible to turn this function off.
